NEWS:

Review of 2018 thus far:

FROSTING came out of the woodwork with a stellar rock show at Wire in Berwyn in early January. Special thanks to Bill Brinias (with an entire truckload of gear for HIMSELF) and Ryan Nelson for filling in on Guitar and Bass guitar respectively. Rehearsals were a blast, the gig was a blast, and the first time FROSTING went out SANS a female vocalist in the group. Talk is still brewing about more shows and writing, of course. Let's get it on!! Yay FROSTING!

BLACKMAKER had it's first outing in some time at District Bar in Rockford IL. Without a doubt, it was off the rails. First time for BLACKMAKER playing without the departed Reggie Raisner. Personal reasons, nothing band-related. Spiv held the 6 string rock, just added more AMPLIFIERS. Show was great, band is still in the talks of doing more. Time shall tell.

PETTY CASH hits the pavement for a double duty weekend celebrating Johnny Cash’s birthday Feb 25,26 at BUB CITY Rosemont, and BUB CITY Chicago, respectively. The word was fairly quiet - but we are EXTREMELY grateful that Matt Friscia (Poster Children) is back in action from a very bad car crash from a while back. Looking very forward to ROCK. hit the link to find out more!!! http://bub-city.com/chicago/

News: BLACKMAKER "All We Had Left - The Collection" is now available on CDBABY!  Here's the link!

 https://store.cdbaby.com/cd/blackmaker2

T'was a great 2017.  Re-kindled some old rock and roll friendships (Blackmaker), and released a monumental 4-cd retrospective.  Lots of great gigs throughout the year.  A couple of Kentland alumni (Tony, Spiv) crossed the 50yr old threshold.  There's no turning back... we're IN for the long haul!

It's funny how I've heard, from others' perspective, many folks gauge their view of musical success by how popular  your band / music is.  I'll tell you this, and I can speak for my bandmates - The truth is: it doesn't matter if we're selling out an arena or sitting on a chair solo acoustic, playing covers..  We're entertainers.  Within the group playing, we strive for goosebumps via performance of a song on stage.  There's simply no explanation for that feeling when it happens - truly out-of-body type stuff.

I can say that we're at that phase.  We play many types of gigs - bars, fests,  block parties, tons of private functions, etc.  These gigs are above and beyond the glory of a 3/4 sold out, 40min House of Blues show. Bottom line:We love performing alongside each other, wherever, whenever. When that spark hits, and you feel it in the audience - THAT is success.

Thanks you: The few, the proud, the Kentland Records mail recipients.   You are our family.

Happiest of holidays, whatever your religious affiliation or any of that overthought / oversensitive crap.

Thank you for being a part of our RNR family!

NEWS:

KENTLAND RECORDS would like to send heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Kris Gutrich (Simons, Blackmaker, Red Pop FURY) Bill Gutrich, father of Kris, passed away September 29, 2017.

Blackmaker had a great show at the Bluesfest At The Crossroads in Terre Haute, IN. Great to see some old friends and throw down some guitar slung rock and roll in an ever growing festival. The bous in Blackmaker definitely want to set up more shows in the future. Talks are always in he works. The 4CD set "All we had left" will soon be available for online purchase. Due to some snags in the uploading/setup process, it's taking a little longer than expected. Stay Tuned!

SIMPLE SIMON is still alive and well, just focusing on a thing called life and perhaps the uprising of Blackmaker the last 8 months have put new things on a holding pattern at this point. No worries - in time my friends, in time...

JAVELINAS - Rest in peace, we will never forget! Here's a juke joint version of "red shoes" live on Fearless Radio about 10 years ago... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vW1T6xTbInw

FROSTING - Gathering ideas for more recording.

RED POP FURY - Had some great shows over the summer, and a few on the books throughout the end of 2017. Get out and ROCK with them! NEVER underestimate the power of a category 5 rock and roll hurricane.

PETTY CASH - Great summer of shows! Sadly, we were playing Tom Petty songs while he was current, now we've become a definite "tribute to both" Petty and Cash. We shall keep the music alive - come see the live shows!! Big one coming this weekend 10/15 at 45 fest in Villa Park, IL. https://www.villaparkchamber.org/content/45-fest-0

SPIV - Solo Acoustic HELL. It's like when you're full from dinner, but want something sweet, but not like some big ass explosive piece of cake with three sauces. A nice cup of vanilla yogurt with some crunchy granola and even a few anti-oxidant blueberries does the trick EVERY TIME. Fan of wineries? Come see the last show outdoor for SPIV - Solo Acoustic HELL at Round Barn in Baroda MI. 12 EST (11am Chicago time). Early show, beautiful setting, FUN.

That's all folks!

News:   Hello folks!  Been a while!  Let's kick off with a rewind review -  Lots of gigs the past few months, various bands - all were just as spectacular as imaginable!  AS USUSAL:)

BLACKMAKER:  First show in years at Wire was awesome.  We've got one more in the books for our friends down south at Bluesfest in nTerre Haute IN.  After that, time will tell....  Regardless, if you didn't know, BLACKMAKER released a 4 CD set "All WE HAD LEFT - The Collection"  51 tracks across 4 CD's.  What a great bunch of music!  Spiv is currently working on getting the collection uploaded to CD Baby, when that's all done it will be available for digital purchace.  Stay tuned, details to follow.

FROSTING:  Tim and Spiv are clunking heads again, going to resume working on a potential EP release for 2017.  Summertime is crazy time in personal lives, so when the smoke clears, back to the grind of RECORDING!!  Stay Tuned!

Simple Simon:  Shhh... the baby is sleeping.  When he wakes up he'll be hungry, need a change and will be ready to ROCK.

Petty Cash:  What a fun band!! Lots of shows coming in at the end of the summer season -  Check back here for more details or feel free to visit www.pettycashband.com

Red Pop FURY:  Pure musical majesty in any way, shape or form.  Couple of private shows on the books, spinning wheels and shifting calendars to hopefully find a few more shows thru 2017.  Stay tuned!

News: BLACKMAKER BLACKMAKER BLACKMAKER This certainly the headline story of this particular mailer. Well, this will be the first show with the original lineup since 2004. We're hitting it with a bang at an uber cool club, WIRE in Berwyn IL. Friday, June 02. On the bill is the LEGENDARY Marty Casey as well as local rock outfit 13 Monsters. This particular gig, if all goes as planned, will be the only one on the books where you can get a NEW BLACKMAKER CD. Wait, Wha? You read it correctly. On a whim, a last minute decision was collectively made to put out a ...wait for it... 4CD SET of any and all unreleased demos, studio recordings, unfinished songs etc that BLACKMAKER ever inked. Who the hell is crazy enough to do something like that? BLACKMAKER.

4 Discs, 40+ songs. Granted, these are from the vault - the real vault. The set is unmastered, which basically means audio levels are all over the place (some songs way louder/quieter than the next) Some songs are unfinished, some have audible cd glitches, etc. It's literally ALL WE HAD LEFT. In all honesty, we really wanted to have it for the first show in years. Part of the decision to just "roll with the cd set as it is" was due to that fact. June 02 is hopefully not the last show Blackmaker will ever do, but who knows. With the way rockstars are dying nowadays... Ok, I won't go there. Back to the CD set. So basically you're getting EXACTLY what we took home after rehearsals, studio sessions etc. People over the years always asked "why didn't you put this song or that song out" - Well - you're getting them. ALL OF THEM. $25 gets you the set. Yes, it will eventually be available on iTunes, etc. But that usually takes about 1-2mos to set up. Being more of a purist, I like to read the liner notes and have the damn thing in my hands, so I'd advise you to BUY THE SET at the show!

Outside of that news, there are other various shows on the books -Redpop FURY, Petty Cash, and Spiv solo acoustic hell. Come on out and ROCK!!!

News:

Well blow me down. BLACKMAKER had it's first official rehearsal with the original lineup since our last time on stage in 2004. To say it was a goose bumping, emotional event for the 5 of us is an absolute understatement. What a band. Hard to find more words, but what a band, what a collection of rock music. Absolutely reinvigorated us to not put this to rest, but perhaps do a scattered reunion show here and there and bring that energy to the public. We're working on a couple of shows at this time, nothing but tentatives on the books - Don't you worry your little butt... you WILL KNOW when a show is booked. here's a FB clip of that rehearsal weekend: https://www.facebook.com/jeff.randall.56/videos/1559448477417866/?pnref=story

SIMPLE SIMON has a show!!! For the first time in years, the SIMONS are heading back up North to one of our favorite rock and roll towns, Beloit WI. We're absolutely excited to be playing with long time friends The Blacktop Kings, whom we've shared the stage with in some way, shape of form many times in many cities over the years. This will truly be one for the books. Get your hotel room and ROAD TRIP!

RED POP FURY. Always entertaining, always off the rails. Never EVER the same show twice, with the absolute best stage banter ever seen on stage by any human being in any part of the universe. We never update our website.

SPIV - Solo acoustic HELL. From Merle Haggard to The Kinks to The Cure to Gordon Lightfoot and a hell of a lot of 70's oozy yacht rock... Writing a set list is banned. Fun times!

That's about all I have this round. Remember, dates update and change from time to time, so always visit www.kentlandrecords.com for updated stuff.

News:  From the mouth of JAVELINAS:

My how time flies... This time of year, 10 yrs ago, Javelinas released our second full length record, "Seven Sisters". Recorded, mastered in 7 days in the historic Smart Studios (RIP), It was a record that moved a lot of people across the USA, including ourselves, obviously.

Chris McGinnis, Mark Grzelak, Chris Glynn, Dan Postlewait, put out an independent kick to the throat masterpiece. In our lifespan, we played hard. Mostly small clubs, bigger shows here and there, as ...is the course, but we hit the road often as possible and always turned heads that were stubborn to turn. Aah, the glory... Regardless, Javelinas was a live bonfire of rock and roll from the first note. As for 7 Sisters? Great reviews across independent, regional press nationwide, and most proudly, 5 songs off of 7 Sisters were in regular rotation on pre-Sirius merger, XM Cross Country radio, Nashville. When Javelinas songs were ranking above Willie Nelson and John Fogerty songs, it was something unexplainable to feel unless you were in the band. Long live JAVELINAS. Long Live Rock And Roll. Feel free to peruse through our video clips and photos, or visit the mothership www.kentlandrecords.com to hear clips etc. Rock on!

I'll give my personal side - I have the great fortune of having been in insanely driven bands throughout the course of this musical career.  They all have exclusive stories and all share a thread of commonality somehow.  Javelinas for me was a coming of age band.  I was approaching 40, still hard core rock and roll, but needed to morph in the guitar/singer/songwriter/frontman realm, in a different GENRE.  Call some parts of it country, sure.  The label was Americana, but we were still just rock and roll.  We had a few acoustic songs, yeah.  Best part was that we could do a gig with the most cutting edge rock band, or the old school rock historian and still have complete merit, poise and zero uncertainty.  It was the band that took my musical perspective to a new realm, and I'm still learning.  LIFE friends with Chris Glynn, Dan Postlewait and Chris McGinniss. We created history.

And History was created by the few, the proud, the Kentland bands.   As I type this, I'm mentally preparing for the first jam session of the band BLACKMAKER in, well, years.  I can't wait to dive into the music and share time with another group of livelong musical friends:  Tony Porfirio, Jeff Randall, Kris Gutrich, Reggie Raisner.  Not quite sure what the plan is yet, but it has to (re)start somewhere.  3/3/2017 is that restart.  Details to follow.

On the retrospective gig front, Thanks to all who came out to the dual BUB CITY jams (Spiv/Tony acoustic) Rosemont, (Petty Cash) Clark st. What a weekend of great music.  Moments were had/made.

On the current gig front:  Spiv Solo acoustic HELL rages on - check the calendar for dates...

RED POP FURY IS PLAYING IN THE CITY OF CHICAGO?!?!!@#$%@#^%  YES!  YES! YES!   After you look in awe at the green Chicago River, and scream at the green floats at the St. Patrick's Day Parade in Chgo - Get your ass down to the Polk Street Pub.  Courtesy of LYDONLAND - Red Pop Fury will bring, well, something unlike those folks have never witnessed in the realm of rock music entertainment.  I'm thinking book a room with the significant other and make a night of insanity.

That's all I got.

ROCK ON!!!

News!

Aah, 2017!  Who would've thought Spiv would be sending rock and roll emails out at this juncture in life?  Yee haw!

Let's get to it and talk about some band stuff:

SIMPLE SIMON:  Had a nice writing session in late January, more to come for sure.  The story:  We had archived about 20-30 songs that never saw the light of day in the late 1990's-early 2000's.  We've never stopped thinking about these songs and decided to blow the dust off them and see if anything sticks, despite the fact that they're 15+yrs old.  Some pretty cool stuff, some quite meh. Early stages, but there may be an EP in the works here of the ones we like best.  New stuff??  Lots of riffs, ideas etc flowing as well for the beginnings of a potential collection of new Simons music, circa NOW is in line as well.  Exciting times - stay tuned.

FROSTING:  I'd like to say "not dead yet".  A release will be underway some time this year.  Mark my words.  There's only so many times you can hear the music in your head, car, ipod etc until it literally drives you crazy and have to get it out.  Anyway - stay tuned.

BLACKMAKER:  Did someone say Blackmaker? Yes.  Looks like the band wants to do a couple of shows to "close the book" and relive some very cool music a few more times.  Stay tuned....

Spiv Solo Acoustic HELL/RED POP FURY:  Check the website for shows.  Hyatt Mag Mile booted the music program in 2016, and just brought it back.  Spiv first show 2/4.  Red Pop FURY is always off the rails.  Spiv apologizes for not announcing our McNallys show that happened In late Jan.  oops........

Till next time, ROCK ON!

SIMPLE SIMON:  Thank you, thank you thank you all who came out to our off the rails SUPERSTAR 20th anniversary show.  Special thanks to Terata for opening the show with fire!  One of our absolute favorite releases in our catalog, it was challenging, exciting and amazing all in one night.  So great to wipe the dust off of songs we've never played live!  There are various youtube clips of songs available to relive the moments!  The show sparked talk within the Simons camp to get together and start breaking ground on new material.  Bring it on!

FROSTING:  Still in the works for more music up the pipe.  Stay tuned!

Spiv solo acoustic HELL.  All good things must come to an end  After a great 4yr run, One of Spiv's comfy, cushy acoustic regular shows is pulling the plug.  Hyatt Magnificent Mile has undergone a management change and guess what that means....  Don't fret, two last chances (12/21, 12/23) to head downtown, shop, chill on the couch with some great food, drinks, a view of the city and the soothing sounds of Spiv - solo acoustic HELL.  Come on down!

That's about all for now.  Have a great holiday season and we'll catch you in 2017.

THREE:

SIMPLE SIMON is playing a show Saturday NOVEMBER 05, 2016.  This is the fourth year of "20th anniversary shows" and the last with regards to Simon history in the 1990's.   Yes, there were a few releases years later, however this particular show/event is monumental in Simple Simon history.  I (Spiv) couldn't put it in words better than my, since childhood friend, brother in arms, been through EVERYTHING together mate, Tony Porfirio disclosed his view in a candid email.  Here it is:

Saturday, November 5, 2016 | 9:00pm

ELBO ROOM LIVE PRESENTS!
Doors: 8:00pm Show: 9:00pm 21+  Under 21 accompanied by parent
Ticket Link:  BUY NOW!

As many of you (my friends and family) already know, the last four years, my band Simple Simon has celebrated the 20thanniversaries of our CD releases.  OnSaturday, Nov 5th @ the legendary Elbo Room in Chicago, the 4th installment of our 20th Anniversary series - Superstar -  will be performed in it’s entirety; a 20th rule and custom.  The word “epic” gets thrown about a little frequently these days and I’m not sure if the word can ever apply to the works of one Simple Simon, but if it could, Superstar is our Epic.  It is by far our most diverse sounding and introspective record we ever released.

Anyone who has attended one or all of the previous 20s knows how amazing it has been for everyone to flash back, nod our heads and rock our balls off.  For me, this show is different.  Since we made the decision (or was it Kathy G that decided) to host these 20s, I have been waiting for this show.  Writing was always fairly hard for us.  Spiv and I almost always had very clear ideas of the directions we wanted to go and there was usually quite a bit of give and take, compromise and sacrifice to find middle ground.  Superstar was different. It was a lightning strike; a supernatural phenomenon; a spiritual awakening.  Spiv and I crossed our proton streams and all life as we knew it did not stop instantaneously and every molecule in our bodies did not explode at the speed of light.  Instead we produced a star…a Super one at that.   Every aspect of this record was unique. (click here)  How it was written, recorded and even the eventual release at the Metro was bizarre and historic.  While it only enjoyed moderate sales, I believe we wrote a truly great record that still sounds and relates as relevant 20 years later.

This is our most ambitious project and has led to the most prep we have ever put in for one of our 20 bashes.  The rehearsals have been difficult and fulfilling at the same time.  We are incredibly happy that Elbo Room has offered to host and that our long-time friends and musical brethren - Terata - will be sharing the stage with us that night.

This is going to be a night to remember for me and my SS bros.  The 3 of us will die soon and never play rock and roll (on Earth) again.  I hope you can share the Superstar experience with us, before…you know.

After party at my house…

Tony

Tony Porfirio

I will add this.  I distinctly remember inking the musical tracks at a 2nd floor apartment on Diversey/Austin in Chicago.  It's hard to explain a burst of inspiration from out of nowhere, but the tracks, what eventually became "Superstar" came from out of the blue.  Divine intervention? who knows.  All I know is that I was so excited, I drove to Tony's house in my Pontiac Bonneville (2dr, velvet interior), and demanded he listen to the music with me.  Weeks/months followed, and as Tony said above, we connected.  We discussed song titles, lyrics etc.  It was 100%positive. This was the stuff we read about in magazines.  Doesn't matter that we weren't famous or under contract with some record label, the feelings we felt were absolutely on par with that of genuinely written music, some that inked the deal.  We knew.  We knew.  20yrs later, I'm still figuring out the crazy chords for the songs, one week before the show.  I'm sure we'll make mistakes, but there's no way I can explain what three grown men playing a 20yr old under the radar record that meant so much to us and a regional fan base feels like.   Listen to the whole record.  We're gonna play it. We're gonna play it like it was always meant to be played.

We're not rock stars. We're not a pea in a giant conglomerate label...

We are part of a generation of creative people, pre-anything instant (internet, ads, etc).  I sometimes feel we're the last of the few who grew up having to practice, earn our keep.

For what it's worth, Superstar is another star, buried in the vivid galaxy of music.

Last note - we will play the hell out of this on a one night only event. You should go to this show and bring a friend.   You're not gonna see something like this ever again.

Rock on-

SPIV

SIMPLE SIMON
20th Anniversary of the 1996 release "SUPERSTAR"
Elbo Room
Chicago

Hello!  Hope everyone had a brilliant summer, 2016!  We've some shows on the books in Sept, Oct.  A couple of cool shows on the books - the usual swooning, hellish SPIV with his cushy solo  acoustic shows, always a blast..  RED POP FURY has a cool fundraiser for St. Andrews School in Chgo, what has become an annual gig for the fury. This years it's at FAT CAT on Broadway in Chicago. Granted it is a fundraiser, however the venue is open to the public, so feel free to crash it!  RED POP FURY also has a return show at Suzy's in Yourkville IL - 'twas a blast last time, 'twill be a blast this time for sure!

SIMPLE SIMON has finally booked the 20th anniversary show for their 4th release "SUPERSTAR"  SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 05, ELBO ROOM, Chicago.  Superstar is definitely the standout, pivitol record in songwriting approach and growth as musicians and the becoming of a seasoned band.  I know it's my personal favorite of the '90's Simons releases, and vividly remember the entire writing, recording process as well as the amazing CD release show at Metro,Chgo way back in '96.  Amazing memories! Seeing that the SIMONS play the record in its entirety at the past release shows, this show fares no differently. Clocking in at 18 tracks, the gents have a TON of work to do in 1.5months!    And that will make for an explosive pre election day, hmm?    Kick it with the Simons then get your but out and vote!!!!
...aaaand a quick shout out to Kentland related great friend, Matt Friscia (Petty Cash) who recently recorded an upcoming record and will be doing the upcoming tour with the amazing 90's bombasts, POSTER CHILDREN.  Be sure to check him out kickin' out the jams when they blow through Chi-Town!

That's it for this round -

News:

Too much to say, not enough time or space.  Lots of various things on the calendar as you can see - All sorts of rock and roll, from solo acoustic to bashing guitars and drums.  Wow.

I'll offer short blurbs of commentary:

KING MIXER - (Eric Howell) Chicago singer/songwriter/performer has enlisted the backing band of RED POP FURY to play a few shows this summer including his CD release show (feat. many special guests) at Martyr's in Chgo on 6/18/2016, then on to the Taste Of Chicago on 7/8/2016.  Great songs, great people.

RED POP FURY - You know the FURY - Always off the rails, always entertaining, always bombastic and always FUNNY.

PETTY CASH - Johnny Cash and Tom Petty jams???  Total BLAST.

SPIV - Solo Acoustic HELL - Soothing, timeless wonderful music. (That's what Tony's Mom said)

SIMPLE SIMON - Every once in a while the Simons blow the dust off the machine and blow the roof off of some unsuspecting brick and mortar building.   Simons doing a very cool Monday "Rock and roll camp for kids" in Danville IL on 6/20/2016.  They'll be actually teaching kids their views/methods of how to "rock" and closing out the night with an outdoor jam.  Tons of fun, memorable.  THEN.....  Our great friend (Frosting/REDPOP FURY) Drummer, Timmy Lydon turns 40 this year, and has put together one hell of a birthday Bash at Elbo Room on 7/16/2016.  Old school rock and roll, multi band bill.  What a way to tear into 40!! SIMONS will definitely bring the GOODS.  Oh yeas, that 20th anniversary of Superstar.... um.... booking??

FROSTING - Low and Behold, Frosting has had some rehearsals.  Now steadfastly a POWER TRIO (Spiv, Timmy Lydon, Manny Vasquez), the music is invigorating and we cannot wait to bring it back out to the public.  Stay tuned.

Von Ether - Spiv and Co. have been laying down tracks a piece at a time at Trigger Recording in Chicago, and I will say - this stuff is really f'n impressive.  Definitely a step in a new world, rooted in Rock  - looking forward to bring it public. Stay Tuned.

Last note:   If I haven't already, I would like to corinate, Kentland Records style - Tony. Tami and Chloe Porfirio on the opening of their new super-hip mega fun business, Pinots Pallette.  Drink Wine, create art - Total blast and full of energy joint.  Please visit them frequently, you will absolutely enjoy yourself!  https://www.pinotspalette.com/logansquare   Congrats to Tony , Tami, Chloe!!!

That's all I got.

Rock on and don't let your meat loaf.

Some cool shows on the books in many forms!

PETTY CASH debuts their goods at Adobe Gila's in Lincoln Park on Friday April 15th.  Check this out, Anyone attending the show that prints out the invite can receive 10% off their bill that night! No joke! You get 10% off your BILL!!!!  How's that for a promotion!

KING MIXER.  WTF is a King Mixer?  Great local artist, loooong time friend of ours, Eric Howell has been chugging it out in the scene for as long as we have.  That would be the age of the DINOSAURS.   Anyway, he was very kind in asking Spiv, Flambo Tony and Mr. Glynn (Red Pop Fury) to be his band for promoting his new record.  Somewhat obliged as old school rock and rollers carrying the torch, we gladly said yes and the rehearsals have kicked in.  A handful of shows have been planned for 2016, the first being at RED LINE TAP in Chicago on Tue, April 19th.  Come see what the fuss is all about!

SPIV kickin' more solo acoustic HELL at posh Chicagoland hotels this month, par usual - come get your hell on.

RED POP FURY has a couple of shows with the Simons lineup in early May - plan accordingly.

Rock on and order your Guns N Roses tickets.

News:

First and Foremost - thanks to all who came out to the PETTY CASH 100TH gig @ Qbar!!  Great crowd, great rock and roll and great tiny cake that we shared a forkful with everyone in attendance.  Didn't matter, since the band got paid $65,275 for those amazing two sets. More shows on the books - www.pettycashband.com

Second and Foremost in second position (second foremost?)  Thanks to all who crawled out of the woodwork for a somewhat private/public SIMPLE SIMON show at Roundhouse in Aurora.  Albeit the Simons dished out a wide array of cool covers all night for what was supposed to be a private party booked public - the word got out and it was absolutely humbling to re-connect with friends from the glory days. Happy 50th Sue-Z and ROCK on  everyone else in the Simons world.

Progress, New Music, Things to look forward to:

JAVELINAS now has a FACEBOOK page.    https://www.facebook.com/Javelinaschicago   The now "part of rock and roll history" band is up for the gawking.  Reverbnation site up as well as song clips, video clips etc.  Please go pay your respects to this amazing 'gone too soon' band.

FROSTING is in the communications phase of starting to hit the rehearsal pad again.  Lots of material to begin working on with high hopes for 2016.

SIMPLE SIMON is looking very forward to 2016's presentation/booking of the 20th anniversary of their 2006 release "SUPERSTAR"  An intense task at hand (18 tracks on the record), look forward to the live show of one of the bands personal favorite 'coming of age' releases.

VON ETHER - A Kentland related project (Spiv plays gtr) - VE has recorded the first of many blistering, soulful female fronted off the rails tracks at Trigger recording in Chicago.  Can't let the cat out of the bag just yet, but WOW - be prepared.

RED POP FURY is just f**king amazing.  We all know that.   Well, recently a good friend of Simple Simon/RedPop Fury, local singer/songwriter/performer Eric Howell cordially requested one of the 7500 versions of RED POP FURY (Spiv, Flambo, Glynn)  to be the core backing band for his original project "King Mixer".  A Loooong time friend, RPF graciously accepted and have hit the rehearsal room since.  A few shows slated in 2016, including International Pop Overthrow and Taste of Chicago are on the books with more to come.  Details to follow.

Spiv/Matt Friscia project:  Stay tuned...........

Spiv - solo acoustic HELL.  No promotion here, except for a little personal blurb that on 3/30/2016, Spiv will be playing solo acoustic on his 20th wedding anniversary.  "A gig on your 20th Anniversary"  you should be ashamed!!  Well, let's just say that there's nobody except for the wife of a musician who can tell the truth of what it's like to be the wife of a musician.  Extremely grateful and humbled I (Spiv) am to have been supported by an amazing woman who has given to and been through so much with me.  OMG. Do you like me?  __Y  __N.  20yrs.  TWENTY YEARS. No there won't be a facebook post or tweet or anything like that "oh baby, you're my ROCK, my soulmate, whenever I see a pretty cloud formation or perfectly plated seafood dish, I think of you" - No - that's not how we roll... Twenty years of marriage says more than a blurb on the internet.   I don't need a reason, but many of you on this list were a part of that wedding and/or have been in our lives for 20+ years.  Thanks you for being a part of this crazy, amazing ride of life.  "The Buds" 2016.

Rock on!
Spiv

News:

Been a great summer/fall with a bunch of on and off the radar shows, thanks to all who came out!

SIMPLE SIMON:  Anniversary show 11/14/2015!  This marks the anniversary of the Simple Simon 3rd, 1995 release "Focus". In retrospect, this was a transitional record for the Simons, moving away from the harder-edged rock somewhat funk (curse that word) groove-driven music to more melodic throws, eventually spawning years more of what seem to be early threads of the independent alt rock genre.  This would also be the final record for the Simons' original drummer since the teen years, Dino Meo.  Recorded at a place called Thunderclap Recording, it also was the first Simon record without Dino Manzella at the recording desk.  The opening track "Lost My Faith" received a fair amount of local and regional airplay, and Alt/Rock Chicago Station Q-101 featured a live version of "Juvenile" recorded at what was then Dome Room.  The live compilation benefited Clara's House, a shelter for women.

I will say that the 20th anniversary shows the past two years have brought us together as band/community in many heartfelt ways, however as I step back and look at the timeline, it's really about the creative period of three band mates that lived, eat and slept rock and roll for years.  That said, current 20th anniv. rehearsals are fun as hell as we go through each song and describe, in detail, how we wrote the songs, where we wrote the songs, atmosphere, vibe etc.  Sooo... we just sit in our practice spot and reflect on just how f**king awesome it is to be SIMPE SIMON. In all honesty, it's great to be able to re-live giant  parts of your lives where music was such a big factor from back in the day when we were all young and innocent.  Yeah, well, enough of that.  Ticket link above and right here if you haven't got yours!   http://elboroomlive.com/event.cfm?id=218212

Come on out to the show - it's pretty much the show you want to be a part of - old school, no frills, amazing banter rock and roll like it was meant to be.

More news as more news comes!!

Rock on!
