News:
2023 was a good year in the Kentland camp. Lots of different shows for lots of different bands in lots of different places. Long live Rock And Roll.
Tony Porfirio has a new band? Yes, you read that correctly, Tony Porfirio has a new band! The band's name is Code Noir, and there is a back story behind this: Long, long ago, In a world that seems buried in the depths of rock and roll, our band, Simple Simon played one of our first shows at a club called the Avalon in Chicago. One of the other bands on the bill was called The Absolute. They were phenomenal and we matched well on that bill. Cutting to the chase, we befriended them. When their band disbanded, Their drummer, Tim Zimmerman, became a short term drummer for Simple Simon, did some minor touring with us, and recorded our 4th record “Superstar” with us in 1996. Now I know for a fact that Tony wanted to do something music-wise with their singer Jayh Johnson for decades. Well, it’s on. They are now Code Noir. Keep an eye out for them in the Chicago Scene! Go FLAMBO!
In other news, I, Spiv, am more than excited to be working side by side with our long-time great friend and exceptional engineer for many a Kentland release, Mike Zirkel, as we begin the mixing process for the debut record of Spiv and Matt Friscia's long time in the works, work on it whenever you get around to it project, DECIBELLA. Details as they come!
The RED POP FURY debut record is coming along as well. In lyrics/vocal phase. Details to follow.
It has been brought to my attention that there are several mislabeled songs in the streaming world for some Kentland bands. Trust me – it is THE most frustrating thing to deal with, hands down. All I can say is that the red tape is quite thick, many cooks in the kitchen of the world where music goes from your head to your hands to the recording systems to the distribution company to the streaming platforms... Simple Simon has endured this problem back when streaming wasn't even a twinkle in the stars - since back in 1993 when it was discovered that there was a Simple Simon in Jamaica. People would look us up and find reggae. Bottom line is if you hear a reggae song, it’s not Simple Simon, Chicago. (Although we did have the Jamaican Free Song) Javelinas also had this problem, I believe there was a Javelinas out of AZ or something. Nowhere near as badass as our JAVELINAS, I will say..
Don’t you worry, I’m sure there will be another platform for listening to music soon that will wipe out streaming, and we’ll have to go out and purchase our RUSH records on yet another new format. (Rush is not currently on Kentland Records, that is a rumor)
Go out and enjoy some music.
Stay in and enjoy some music.
How ever you do you, just enjoy some music.
That is all I have for now.
ROCK ON
